Boast In The Lord January 8th, 2023

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.  Proverbs 16:3

This verse from Proverbs begins with an action on our part to commit and ends with a promise from God to establish our plans.
When I began my career at AT&T over 38 years ago someone gave me this Bible verse and from every day since I have strived to commit my career to the Lord.  Early in my career as a young husband and father, I committed the difficult task of balancing work and family responsibilities to the Lord.  I asked Him to guide me in making decisions about the best way to approach dividing my time between family and work, and He established my path.
When I had to make a decision between continuing in scientific research or pivot toward a business career, He established my path.
During the rocky times for AT&T, when layoffs and uncertainty abounded, He established my path.
Through the highlights and disappointments in my career, He established my path.
As I wrestled with the decision of when to retire, God was faithful to his promise; He established my path.  God made it abundantly clear to me that this past November was the right time for me to retire from AT&T.
While I would like to say that I was steadfast in committing my career to the Lord, that would not be entirely true.  There were certainly times where my commitment waivered and I struggled ahead on my own strength.  But God was always faithful in His promise: He established my plans.  Despite my sometimes feeble attempts to commit it all to the Lord, God honored His commitment to me – He established my plans.  I thank God for His unwavering faithfulness.
In 2023, I boast in the faithfulness of our God.  He is a God who is faithful to His promises now and forever.  Let’s make 2023 a year where we renew our commitment to the Lord and rest confidently in His promises.  For His Word is true and His Promises are available for each of us to claim.

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,  I thank you for the many promises You have revealed to us in the Bible.  I pray that this year You will make us ever-mindful of those promises and we will find strength in Your Word.  Throughout the year, may You remind us of your faithfulness and be an ever-present help in times of need.  When uncertainty and doubt threaten to overwhelm us, may we recall Your Word which says, “we do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”  In 2023, please keep our eyes steadfastly focused on You.  In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.
